Nearest Airport in Calgary With Pet Services

Calgary International Airport is the main gateway for pet transportation in Southern Alberta and one of Western Canada’s busiest hubs for domestic and international travel. The airport handles a high volume of connecting flights to the United States, Europe, and Asia, making it a common departure point for long-distance and overseas pet relocations.

Seasonal weather is one of the key considerations. Calgary’s winter temperatures can trigger airline-specific cold-weather restrictions, while summer travel may involve heat limits on certain aircraft. For that reason, routing and timing often need adjustment to align with airline safety policies. Pet Travel Advisors plans routes with these operational limits in mind and confirms airline acceptance before travel is booked.

Who actually handles your pet at YYC: Air Canada Cargo runs the AC Animals product out of Cargo Terminal, 110-175 Aero Way NE. The station runs every day, 05:30 to 22:00. Calgary is one of the four Canadian long-haul gateways and also a cold-weather embargo airport. The tender window is narrow: an animal must be tendered no later than three hours before departure and no earlier than four, so it is a one-hour slot rather than a morning. Air Canada does not offer door to door for animals, so somebody has to take the crate to the counter and somebody has to collect it. Bookings inside Canada go direct to Air Canada at least 24 hours ahead; bookings to the United States or overseas have to be placed through a registered IPATA, IATA or ATA agent rather than by the owner. On the paperwork side the CFIA endorsement is in person and by appointment, there are no walk-ins, and the fee is calculated when you book and paid by card at least three days before the appointment, which is why we book that appointment against the flight rather than the move date.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pet Transport

Can pets still fly out of Calgary in winter?

Winter is the main scheduling factor for Calgary moves. When temperatures drop, airlines apply cold-weather limits and may hold animals from cargo on the coldest days. We plan around it by choosing milder travel windows and midday departures from YYC, and by routing through warmer connections when the forecast calls for it, so your pet travels safely.

Will my pet fly out of YYC?

Most Calgary-area pets depart from Calgary International (YYC), a major connecting hub with routes across the country and overseas. Its direct routes often mean fewer connections, which makes for a shorter trip for your pet. We handle the check-in timing and the airline’s crate and booking rules so the airport day stays calm and predictable.

Do you offer door-to-door pet transport from Calgary?

Yes. Many Calgary families want the whole move handled, so we can arrange ground pickup from your home, the airport hand-off, and delivery at the other end. One coordinator stays with the journey from your Calgary door to the destination.

Do you handle international pet moves from Calgary?

Yes. Calgary International (YYC) has strong international service, and we coordinate overseas moves from Calgary end to end, mapping the route, preparing the destination country’s import paperwork and the CFIA export endorsement, and timing travel around the airline’s schedule. See our destination guides for country requirements.

What parts of the Calgary area do you pick up from?

We arrange pickups across Calgary and nearby communities like Airdrie, Cochrane, Okotoks, and we coordinate pet moves throughout the Prairies and the rest of Canada through our service areas. We also coordinate moves in nearby Edmonton.

How is the cost of a Calgary pet move decided?

Every Calgary move is priced on its own, because the route, airline fees, your pet’s size and crate, the season, and the destination’s rules all change the total. Tell us where and when, and we’ll put together an estimate: request a quote. For a closer look at what drives the price, see our guide to pet shipping costs in Canada.
